Early Life and Career:

Rohit Sharma was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His father, Gurunath Sharma, worked as a caretaker of a transport firm, and his mother, Purnima Sharma, is a housewife. Rohit was interested in cricket from a young age and began playing in his locality. He joined a cricket academy in his hometown and was soon selected to represent the under-17 team.

In 2005, Rohit Sharma made his debut in first-class cricket for Mumbai. He played exceptionally well and scored 205 runs in the first innings of his debut match. He continued to play consistently and was soon selected for the India A team. In 2007, he was included in the Indian squad for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20.

International Career:

Rohit Sharma made his debut in international cricket in 2007 against Ireland. However, he struggled initially to cement his place in the Indian team. It was not until the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia in 2008 that he made his mark. He scored his maiden ODI century against Sri Lanka in the tournament and played a crucial role in India's victory.

In 2013, Rohit Sharma was promoted to open the innings in ODIs, and it proved to be a turning point in his career. He scored back-to-back centuries in his first two matches as an opener, against Australia, and has never looked back since then. He continued to impress with his impeccable stroke play and became one of the best openers in the world.

In 2014, Rohit Sharma broke the record for the highest individual score in ODIs, scoring 264 runs against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He scored his third double century in ODIs in 2017 against Sri Lanka, becoming the only batsman to score three double centuries in the format. His ability to score big runs consistently made him an integral part of the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma also played a crucial role in India's victory in the 2007 and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. He was also a part of the Indian team that reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup.

Indian Premier League:

Rohit Sharma has also been an integral part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He began his IPL career with the Deccan Chargers in 2008 and played for them for three years. In 2011, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians, and since then, he has been a vital cog in their setup. He has led the team to five IPL titles, the most by any team in the tournament's history.

Captaincy:

Rohit Sharma has been a successful captain for India and Mumbai Indians. He has led India to victories in the 2018 Asia Cup and the 2020 Nidahas Trophy. He also led Mumbai Indians to victory in the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. His tactical acumen and ability to remain calm under pressure have made him a successful leader.


Rohit Sharma married his childhood sweetheart, Ritika Sajdeh, in December 2015. They have a daughter named Samaira, who was born in December 2018.
